8 day and 7 night tour

 

 

Day 1

Arrival to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. Transfer to the hotel. Dinner.

Day 2

A three hour tour round Vilnius, town established on three hills by the Great Duke Gediminas in 1323. Visit: Cathedral, the symbol of Lithuania, first built in the 13th century, the gothic gem St Ann’s Church, Vilnius University that is the oldest one in Eastern Europe, the Jewish Settlement, the Gates of the Dawn with its miraculous painting of St Virgin Mary, the masterpiece of the 17th cenutry Barocque St Peter and Paul’s  Church. A trip to Trakai, a small town that lies 28 km from Vilnius on a peninsula in the middle of three adjoining lakes. The town is also known as the historical capital of Lithuania. An excursion to the 15th century island castle called „the castle on the water“. Travel back to Vilnius for overnight. Dinner.

Option for dinner: an etnographic folk song and dance party with a traditional dinner included.

Day 3

Departure to Klaipeda. Stop in Palanga, Lithuanian seaside resort. Visit to the Count Tiskevicius Palace that at present houses the Amber Museum with its large collection of rare pieces of amber. Stay overnight in Klaipeda. Dinner.

Day 4

Departure to Neringa – the peninsula that is a unique phenomenon with its sand dunes, beach coastline, and old fishermen villages situated in fragrant pine forests. Visit Nida – the settlement considered  to be a Lithuanian sahara due to its unique landscape which most attractive are the moving sand dunes. On the way back to Klaipeda a stop in Juodkrante where you will experience the best walk you may ever have on the Hill of Witches, a wood sculpture museum under the open sky. Arrival to Klaipeda for overnight. Dinner at a famous restaurant.

Day 5

Travel to Riga, the capital and seaport of Latvia. Stop in Rundale Palace, masterpiece of baroque, designed for the Duke of Courland in the 18th century by Italian architect Rastrelli, the designer of the Winter Palace in St Petersburg.  Overnight in Riga. Dinner.

Day 6

A three hour tour round Riga, one of the oldest Hanseatic League towns established in 1201 by the German merchants. Visit the most famous sights: St Peter’s Church that has the highest wooden tower in Eastern Europe, Dome Cathedral with its largest organs in Europe, the Great and Small Guild Halls, the House of Blackheads that used to serve as a hotel for single travelling merchants, Swedish Gate, Riga Castle, the biggest gallery of Art Nouveau architecture designed by Russian architect Eisenstein. In the afternoon a trip to Bergi Open Air Museum that covers over 100 ha  and presents authentic ethnographic houses, fishing village, farm houses, barns, church. Overnight in Riga. Dinner.

Day 7

Departure to Sigulda, the central town of the Gauja National Park that is called the “Latvian Switzerland”, including Turaida Castle built in the 13th century as the residence of the Bishop of Riga; Gutmanis Cave, a monument of nature, and Sigulda Castle, a residence of the Master of the Livonian Order. Travel back to Riga for overnight. Dinner.

Day 8

Transfer to the airport. Departure from Riga.
